What is the difference between green and blue solder masks?

2024-09-21

Green solder masks are the most commonly used in electronics manufacturing. They are known for their high temperature resistance and excellent adhesion, which makes them suitable for applications that require a high level of soldering heat. Additionally, green solder masks offer good electrical insulation and are easy to manufacture, both factors which contribute to their wide use in the industry.

On the other hand, blue solder masks are less common and are typically used for specific applications. One significant advantage of blue solder masks is that they provide higher contrast against the underlying copper layers, which can help with visual inspection during assembly. Blue solder masks also tend to have better color consistency than green masks, which is important for printed circuit boards that need to have a uniform color appearance. However, they can be more expensive to produce and may not always have the same level of adhesion as green masks.
